Opening a Space
Within: Hospitality in the Benedictine Tradition The Rev’d. Dr. Jane
A. Tomaine, Episcopal priest, nationally known retreat leader and author of
St. Benedict’s Toolbox: The Nuts and Bolts of Everyday Benedictine Living,
will lead this evening program focusing on the practice of hospitality found in
the sixth-century monastic Rule of St. Benedict. When we want to trade our
family members in for “shiny new ones” or close the door on a community, the
wisdom of St. Benedict can help us to reclaim connection and purpose in these
relationships. Ideas and useful tools for the practice of hospitality will be
introduced. Suggested
donation: $15 Thursday, February 25 at 6:00 pm.

Great Expectations This year’s advent
retreat will be led by Brother Robert Sevensky, OHC (Superior of the Order of
the Holy Cross). In Twelve-Step circles it is sometimes said: “An expectation is
a resentment waiting to happen.” What may we legitimately expect of God, of
others, of ourselves? We will explore the dynamics of hope and the ways it
expresses itself in our dreaming and desiring. Can we be people of great
expectations? Where do the deepest longings of our hearts
find a home in the Christmas promise? Lunch is provided. Fee $25. Please
call to reserve space. Saturday, December 12, 8:45 am-3:00 pm.
